 The 2009 Race Season

May 1st, 2009
All Season Equipment Night
Opening Night
During the heat Dave and Michael Weber had an incident, and Dave was spun with some extensive damage to the front end.  The crew went to work and was able to get him into the feature.  It was exciting.  After starting last for the feature, Dave went quickly to the front, passing leader Michael Weber, and remained in front the remainder of the race, giving Dave our first win of the 2009 race season!

Congratulations to Dave and the entire crew!!

McGrath Auto Group Night

Dave started very last for the feature race.  He came up quickly through the field to go to third place.  He battled Michael Weber side by side for the entire race, for second and third position.  It was very exciting.  Dave ended up finishing 3rd, in a very tight finish between the two of them.

Van Meter Industrial Fast Lane Friday in support of local flood relief night

Warm weather, a large crowd, and excellent racing, for the evening.  All the divisions were excellent.  Our feature had Dave starting in the 3rd position, but as the green flag dropped there was an immediate incident involving Travis Thompson and Doug Simon, and as a result Dave was sent to the rear of the field.   Our car didn't look the best, as the hood was bent from the incident, but the car was intact and Dave continued on.  For most of the race the battle was between Michael Weber, Andy Duggan, and Dave.  With three laps to go the three of them were in a position to pass a lap truck (the only truck in the field).  Having to split, Michael and Dave had went high, and Andy had went low.  Andy's driver front tire went off into the grass and as he came back up, somehow he made contact with Michael, and spun, and Dave was in the position not to get involved, so Dave got the lead with two laps to go!   They restarted with a single file restart, and Dave took the win!!!!

Power of Nature Cub Cadet Night

Due to a low car count in our division, we ran with the Modified Division.  It was very interesting.  Michael Weber took an early lead, but Dave caught him quickly.  They battled back and forth for the entire race for 1st and 2nd place position, ahead of the entire field, including the Modifieds.  It was a clean race with no incidents.  Michael ended up winning, by only a .089 second difference over Dave!

Yellow Book Mid Season Championship Night

Finally a chance to race after several rain outs!!  Dave had a very busy night, as he ran the Hobby Stock Division on the 1/4 mile for Shaun Myers in the 701 car, in which he finished 5th after starting dead last, and then immediately after had to climb into our Sportsmen Car, to run our feature.  Once again we ran with the Modified Division.  The race became interesting after an accident involving Travis Thompson and Michael Weber, which both sustained substantial damage.  Dave had spun to avoid most of the accident, but there was some damage to ours also, including a rear tire which was slightly bent on the rim, but Dave continued, and finished second!  He is now currently the points leader.

NAPA Night at The Races

It looked like a potential rain out, and there were a few rain drops at the beginning of the race, but we did get to finish.  Starting 2nd, Dave maneuvered around Travis Thompson for the lead, after side by side racing for a few laps.  He led for quite awhile, but late in the race, he developed some minor handling issues with the car, and was passed for the lead by Kevin Lee.   He ended up falling slightly back and finished with a 3rd place finish.

100.7/ THE FOX” Free Race Night

The team worked very hard on the car all week trying to obtain the proper setup on the car.  After a last minute setup change prior to the race, it was successful.  It was very cold but with many fans in attendance for the free race.  We ran with the modified division for a 20 lap feature.   Dave started second and after obtaining the lead, he remained there.  He had quite a lead for several of the laps, but due to late cautions in the race caused by the modified division, the gap was closed.  He was challenged several times, but ended up with the win.  Since entering the Sportsmen Division, four years ago, Dave has never won during the month of July, ending the bad streak!!
